Youth of the Democratic Forum
The Youth of the Democratic Forum (IDF – Ifjúsági Demokrata Fórum) is the official youth-organization of the Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF - Magyar Demokrata Fórum). Founded on 8th of July 1989, IDF was the first party oriented but structural independent youth-organization after the changes in Hungary.
At the time of the transition (1989/90) made a group of youth their wishes truth as they founded an organization based on conservative-christen-democratic ideology. Together with the mother party MDF they had the goal to address the youth, to show them a possible way and to give them orientation with the help of christen-democratic views. As short term goal had IDF a parliamentary democracy, party pluralism and a constitutional state in Hungary. The long term purposes as the supporting and deepening of the Hungarian and European consciousness and the forming of a christen-conservative oriented youth are still current and can be used as guidelines in the 21st century.
Standing for the youth, warding of the Hungarian and European values and supporting of the dialog with the Hungarian youth of the neighbor countries are for the IDF issues with high priority. For these goals works IDF active and organizes conferences and other cultural-political events, often together with partner organizations from the Carpathian-Region.
Today has IDF already traditional events as the summer-camp, the autumn-conference or the Christmas-reception.
Structural is IDF based on local groups, at that time 75 units with about 3200 members. IDF is present in all educational and regional important cities in Hungary.
The highest organ is the Congress, which elects the Board. The Board has 10 members (1 Chairman and 9 Vice-Chairmen). In August 2006, after 2 years of successful leading Kornel Almassy abdicated because of his busy pursuit as MP. To chairman was elected Gabor Lasztovicza, who leads IDF and works on the future success.
IDF takes part also in the work of the MDF-Group in the Hungarian Parliament with experts and research associates on different issues. A remarkable part of the IDF members is taking part in the local politics and has the chance to work in different town hall assemblies.
On European level IDF is one of the founding members of YEPP (Youth of the European People’s Party). IDF has in almost every European countries partner organizations. An especially intensive and good relation has IDF with Junge Union Deutschlands (Germany), with CDJA (Netherlands), with JongCD&V (Belgium), with JCVP (Switzerland) and with YFG (Ireland).
